Hopwood Summary
Anthony Hopwoodââ¬â¢s article ââ¬Å"Management Accounting Research in a Changing Worldâ⬠makes a compelling analysis of the future of management accounting. Hopwood discusses several issues with respect to management accounting, but stresses the fact that he is not concerned with preserving previous accomplishments; instead he is worried how this professional field will adapt in the ever-changing business world. This article specifically addresses the effect that mainstream tendencies, autonomy, and world changes have on management accounting and its research. It is believed that current tendencies have caused a decrease in curiosity-oriented research. Hopwood explains that many business schools are focused on earning specific accreditations and do this by requiring professors to conduct research. Since they are not genuinely interested in the research, their studies are often based off of previous data and theories. Additionally, the article explains how there is a strict hi erarchical structure that controls management accounting research. Both of these factors obviously limit the freedom and future progress of research. Hopwood also argues that autonomy is another area of concern. Recently, accounting research and practice has become more distant. Within the field of medicine physicians often conduct research while simultaneously applying technical skills in a normal work environment. This improves the quality and progress of their research. Hopwood believes that without an autonomous relationship between research and practice the field of management accounting will suffer at large. The constant changes of the worldââ¬â¢s economical and political environments are yet another factor affecting the need for management accountants. Hopwood feels that management accounting research should recognize these changes in order to improve its overall relevance. Since management accounting practices have not changed significantly since their inception many people believe that it is irrelevant in todayââ¬â¢s business world. Hopwood helps show the actual importance of management accounting and the need to revolutionize its research.

Celebrity Endorsements
Celebrity Endorsements In the Beauty sector industry, Lââ¬â¢Oreal ranks on the top amongst the other brands, and has also undertaken many celebrity endorsements (Wang W.S, 2006). To comprehend the influence of celebrity endorsement on ââ¬Å"Lââ¬â¢Oreal Parisâ⬠a methodical study is required. This chapter has been divided into two sections, the first begins with a brief description about celebrity endorsements, in addition the previous and the current scenario of celebrity endorsements, whereas the second section talks about the brand Lââ¬â¢Oreal, its performance in the industry, the celebrity endorsements it has undergone, furthermore any risks it has faced while endorsing and lastly how has it been influenced by celebrity endorsements à A key challenge that marketing agencies face today to get noticed in the highly competitive market is that of designing an ââ¬Å"advertising executionâ⬠. There are many ways through which agencies can secure consumers, amongst them one form is celeb rity endorsement (Robert van Der Veen analysis of celebrity endorsement as an effective destination marketing tool, 2004).The concept of ââ¬Å"celebrity endorsementâ⬠has been increasing over the decades and now is a widespread advertising strategy. Celebrity endorsement since ages has been used as an effective source of marketing to promote products and services. (Nathan Klaus, and Ainsworth Anthony Bailey, Celebrity endorsement: an examination of gender and consumer attitudes, American Journal of Business, 2008 vol.23 no.2). At present, one will find almost every advertisement involving a celebrity, these celebrities act as spokespersons so as to advertise and promote products, services and ideas. (Cited in Kambitsis et. al 2002, Rajakaski JJ, Simonsson R.2006). Now Celebrity endorsement is a well established form of advertising strategy, especially in the U.S where approximately twenty percent of all the television commercials present a celebrity or a famous person and in a ddition, approx ten percent of dollars spent on television advertising are consumed in celebrity endorsement. (Cited in advertising age Sherman 1985, Agrawal & Kamakura, 1995). The celebrities when are endorsed for a product they are expected to accomplish a number of objectives such as increasing the brand image, brand name, product creditability, and also the likability of the advertisement.(Brunett et all 1993 cited in Marin 1996). Firms use celebrity endorsement not just for increasing revenues but also its importance lies in the fact that how celebrity endorsement add value to company, brand and product.(Clinton Amos, Gary Holmes, David Strutton, Exploring the relationship between celebrity endorser effect and advertising effectiveness, International Journal of advertising , 27(2), 209-234, world advertising research center) Using celebrities for advertising helps the brand by acquiring better and more attention from the consumers, they add glamour to the product/brand and make it more credible, desirable and trustworthy. (Spielman, 1981 cited in Renton , 2006).According to Friedman and Friedman (1979) ââ¬Å"a celebrity is an individual who is known by the public for his achievements in area other than that of the product class he is endorsingâ⬠. Famous people achieve a high degree of attention from the public and media. As a result of their celebrity status they create a positive image of the product they endorse. Murdoch argues that Belch and Belch has writtenà ââ¬Å"Marketers recognize that people are more likely to be influenced byà a message coming from someone with whom they feel a sense of similarity, and that advertisers recognise the value of using spokes person who are admired: TV and movie stars, athletes, musicians, and other popular figure â⬠(Murdoch, Creativity in advertising). There are a variety of reasons why a firm might go for celebrity endorsement some reasons may be the experiences that the celebrity faced in his l ife may be similar to the message to be conveyed in the advertisement and if you are a fan of the celebrity you might trust them..(Kulkarni and Gaulkar, à 2007). Hence, Choosing a celebrity should be done with at most care and importance since it is more than a marketing strategy as it is a decision that has an impact on the prospect of the brand. Choice of celebrity should be on the basis of factors like appeal, popularity, etc.(Naveen Blazey and Shashi Kanth Ganti, Goa institute of management Goa, Impact of celebrity endorsement on overall brand)

Psychoanalytic Theory and Learning Perspectives Essay
Psychoanalytic Theory and Learning Perspectives - Essay Example It should be mentioned that his theories also underwent the same process of development and change, much like the theories of the mind that preceded his arrival on the field of psychology. His famous theory of the Id, Ego and Super-Ego was a result of a continuing process, beginning with the first topographical model, in which the mind was divided in 3 psychic areas, each allocated to an unconscious, subconscious and pre-conscious level of function. One of the central elements of the system was the censor located between the unconscious and the pre-conscious, whose basic purpose was to repress certain unconscious mental activity (Perelberg). It should be mentioned that, according to this theory, such activity still represented a part of the unconscious, and it only became part of the conscious mind if it was focused on through the process of attention. Freud in a 1915 paper, "The Unconscious", presented clinical manifestation, where such dynamically unconscious thoughts were apparent ; however, it was more than clear that the theory needed to be modified, as same systems operating in the area of the unconscious and conscious inadequately explained the structure and functions of the human mind (Perelberg). Some psychologi Some psychologists explain that the second topographical model was, in most part, based on the previous model; what was revolutionary was the clear definition of the individual areas of the mind, as well as their level and method of functioning. The theory of the Id, Ego and Super-Ego "had a highly clarifying effect and so made further clinical advances possible. But it did not in itself involve any fundamental changes in Freud's views on mental structure and functioning. Indeed, the three newly presented entities, the id, the ego and the superego, all had lengthy past histories" (Perelberg). In his new model, Freud defined the Id as the repressed unconscious, as well as the setting of our desires. This aspect of the mind had no structure and it was solely based on the pleasure principle, which demanded the uncompromising fulfillment of its desires. It represents the basic and most primitive part of the human mind, directed towards satisfying essential desires, ranging from nutrition al to sexual needs, and, according to Freud, it is most evident in young children. The Ego, which was the focus of Freud's research was formed at a later age, when the pleasure principle came in contact with reality, and the realistic condition that not every desire can be fulfilled. This realistic principle modified the pleasure principle forming the regulatory principle of the ego, which acts as the primary censor of the unconscious. It was defined by Freud in 1923 as the primary organizer, using the principles of adaptation, integration and control in order to create a functioning individual in the conscious reality. Freud further developed the theory by focusing on the ego from an aspect of an object of certain facets of our psychological live, like our libido. In schizophrenic patients, the objects of libido are substituted with the ego, which forces the patients to become megalomanic (Perelberg). This is closely related

Health care marketing - Essay Example Prudent and effective designing of the marketing materials for the two requires the marketers to consider the factors that appeal to the audience belonging to the high and the low socio-economic statuses individually. Specifically, to design the marketing materials for elective plastic surgery, more sophisticated marketing materials like television commercials showing celebrities undergoing elective plastic surgeries, youth magazines, and bill-boards would be more suitable as they are frequently considered and reviewed by the people belonging to the high socio-economic status. On the other hand, design of marketing materials for STD prevention should be easier and the means and platforms to promote it should be rampant. Marketing platforms for STD prevention may include but are not limited to television commercials, radio commercials, advertisements in the newspaper, awareness campaigns in the educational institutions, and STD prevention

Principles of Finance - Essay Example When tax is reduced by some percentage it increases companys income by certain multiplier effect since tax is a leakage on income. When tax is reduced to 18%, the taxation will be 90.16pounds (Adams & Von, 2007). b) The assumption is subject to discussion in such a way that each of these methods has their strengths and weaknesses. Taking a case of dividend growth rate, empirical evidence shows that a company, which pays more dividends, has low growth rate. The main reason behind this is that most of its profits go to individual shareholders instead of being ploughed back to the business. This is practical evidence. However, most of the methods are theoretical and lack practicality (Halsey, R. F, 2012). Considering the case of net asset valuation, the method does not consider the future prospects of the company. In fact, these valuation methods depend on historical data, but in a business environment, different environmental factors lead to different outcomes. This is a limitation that begs the question whether the methods are practical because the business environment changes every day and cannot rely on historical data (Halsey, 2000). The book value approach in asset based method is practically unrealistic because the values of the fixed assets depend on sunk costs and relative depreciation. These values are of no relevance to any purchaser or seller (Von, et al., 2004). In considering replacement value, it is also of no practicality. This shows what it might cost to start a business, but this could be lower than the true value for successful business unless the estimation is also made for the value of goodwill and other current assets. In considering the P/E approach, it is not somehow practical. When you are buying a company it is for the entitlement of its future earnings not past earnings. This approach does not take into account turbulent economic times which make them very

Major Assignment - Research Paper Example His horsemen using bows and arrows conquered vast stretches of land in Asia from the present day Beijing in China in the east to parts of present day Iran in the west. Genghis Khan is also credited with establishing an administrative structure based on laws and regulations which enabled his nomadic people to administer the vast empire. Genghis Khan is also reviled in history for the brutality he inflicted on his opponents in war (Jarus). Since the mid-seventeenth century until the end of the cold war era in the early 1990s, Mongolia was cut off from the rest of the world. It was under the control of various Chinese ruling dynasties until the early 1900s. From the time of the Bolshevik revolution in Russia in 1917, Mongolia became a communist country and a part of the Soviet bloc. From the early 1990s, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Mongolia is transitioning into a multi-party democracy. In recent times, Mongolia has caught the worldââ¬â¢s attention due to the discovery of an estimated $ 1.3 trillion value of mineral wealth in the country. The minerals include coal, copper, oil, gold, silver, iron ore, tin and uranium. Foreign mining companies have started investing vast sums in the mining industry causing the GDP to rise at over 14% a year, the fastest in the world (Eurasianet). Mongolia is aiming to use its mineral wealth to attract interest from the United States and other countries as the means of balancing the dominance of its large neighbors, China and Russia. This has been enunciated by the Mongolian parliament as ââ¬Å" the third neighbor policyâ⬠. The US and other countries see an opportunity in Mongolia to create a strategic zone of influence in the neighborhood of China and Russia (Wachman). This research paper would help serve as an introduction to Mongolia which shapes to be a country that would frequently be in the news in the United States and around the world in the near

Textile - Assignment Example tant to check the dry cleanability of plastic buttons for a rayon print dress because the plastic may dissolve in the dry cleaning solvent used such as perchlorethylene. The plastic becomes sticky and the buttons may attach to the fabric; hence, staining the print. Consumers should check the dry cleanability of the leather trim on a wool sport coat because the make-up of the coat may entail spandex that is vulnerable to irreversible damage when subjected to chlorine bleach. The 100% cotton whites may appear gray after dry cleaning because the heat and chemical components of the dry cleaning solvent subjected to them weakens the cellulose in the fabric; hence, the color. It is possible to restore the original whiteness by using mild soap and non-chlorine bleach to ensure that harsh chemicals do not compromise the cellulose structure in the cotton. Some garments are best cleaned by laundering and others by dry cleaning depending on the fabric structure. Cotton garments with spandex would be vulnerable to wear and tear if subjected to a chlorinated dry cleaning solvent. A 100% cotton garment may have a ââ¬ËDry Clean Onlyââ¬â¢ label to protect its make-up from the risk of wear and tear caused by harsh environments created by the washing machine. The cellulose structure may disintegrate due to the heat in the washing machine; hence ruining the
